In 2018, pioneer player Zobran Elias became the first graduate of Ascent Soccer Malawi, moving to Indian Mountain School in Connecticut on a full scholarship.

From day one, Zobran excelled in every aspect of life at a US boarding school. His academic and soccer performance were an inspiration on campus, alongside his exemplary behaviour and character.

Zobran’s immediate impact earned him the highest student award, the ‘Mountain Card’. The Head of School, Jody Sodja, described Zobran as having, “…an unfailing moral compass that guides his every action. He is determined and only seems to grow stronger after set-backs and he exudes empathy, kindness, compassion and respect everywhere he goes both on and off the field.”

As a result, Zobran received a number of full scholarship offers for the next three years of high school from boarding schools from across New England and was eventually awarded the prestigious Davis Scholarship to attend Taft School until 2022. This incredible honour not only supports Zobran at Taft, but also makes a significant contribution towards four years of college tuition.

On the pitch, Zobran is a versatile and powerful fullback/winger, who can also make a major impact in a holding midfield role.

Zobran continues to lead by example, earn every opportunity and be a global scholar that everyone at Ascent Soccer aspires to emulate.
