Always upbeat and always smiling – that would be a great place to start when describing Geoffrey Ogenrwot, Ascent Soccer’s first global scholar from Uganda.

The shifty left-footed winger/midfielder, quickly caught the attention of Ascent coaches in his native Kitgum in rural northern Uganda, which is a distant 450 kilometres from the capital of Kampala.

Often top of his academic class at the Ascent academy in Uganda, it was Geoffrey’s character and habits that made him the obvious choice for an opportunity at Canada’s St. Andrew’s College (SAC).

Once at SAC, Geoffrey was getting plenty of attention on the soccer field, while also earning accolades from classmates and staff for his demeanour, work ethic – and that constant smile.

After a busy summer in Toronto, Geoffrey returned to SAC with new leadership opportunities as a House Captain, where he’s now a mentor and big brother of a group middle school boarding students from across the global. And that’s one more opportunity for Geoffrey to be challenged and lead.

Geoffrey hasn’t missed a step, and is now a successful freshman at Pennsylvania’s Dickinson College.
