Ascent makes some major noise on the international stage!

Last week, Ascent Soccer had a whopping six players in Malawi's Senior Women's National Team, with the Ascent academy girls scoring two of the 'Scorchers' goals in a 3-2 win over a full strength Zambian side, which qualified for the 2023 World Cup.

The six players who made the trip to Lusaka, Zambia's capital, included current academy standouts Maureen Kenneth (17), Leticia Chinyamula (18), Faith Chinzimu (18) and Maggie Chivula (19), who were joined by recent graduates Rose Kadzere (18), who is in her first season at French top tier club Montpellier, and Ireen Khumalo (20), who plays professionally in Malawi with Silver Strikers.

This surprising victory was secured with a 18-yard strike from Kadzere (centre) and an explosive midfield run from Chinzimu (far right), who is already garnering significant attention from Europe after turning 18 years of age in February.

The Zambia squad was led by the Orlando Pride's Barbara Banda, who moved to the USA from China in 2024, in what was the second-largest transfer fee in women's football history.

Team Malawi is led by former FIFA Player of the Year nominee Tabitha Chawinga (Lyon) and were dominant even without her sister Temwa Chawinga, who returned to the USA as per the arrangement made between FAM with her club, the Kansas City Current of the NWSL.

This is an amazing sign of things to come for Malawi's women and Ascent Soccer's emerging talent. Stay tuned, there's likely more big news coming soon!
