Ascent Soccer are U16 Rey Cup Champions!

On Sunday, Ascent Soccer's U16 boys closed out a perfect tournament run in Iceland with a 1-0 victory over first division side Thróttur Reykjavík in the championship final.

It was a magical week for the Ascent squad, who were making their very first appearance in a European tournament event. And, the boys made the most of the opportunity with a perfect 6-0-0 record, 21 goals scored and zero conceded, while making their may to the final with a 3-0 semifinal win over English League 1 academy side, Fleetwood Town.

Individually, Ascent U16 captain and Malawi U17 international, Mwisho Mhango (pictured below), notched 9 tournament goals including a stunning free kick in the final. Follow us on Instagram or Twitter for the video evidence!

There's still plenty on the 18-day itinerary. The boys still have a pair of competitive friendlies ahead of them in Iceland, along with a number of immersive cultural activities and events.
