Ascent's first female global scholar earns full ride to Northeastern

Lughano Nyondo, Ascent Soccer's first female global scholar, has committed to Boston's Northeastern University for 2024, where she will continue her scholastic and soccer pathway in the USA for four more years.

This full scholarship opportunity comes on the heels of Lughano's successful time at Indian Mountain School (CT) and Brooks Schools (MA), where she will graduate this spring as student president.

On the pitch, Lughano quickly emerged as one of the top attacking players in the US northeast and attracted the interest of numerous colleges, before landing on Northeastern.

Lughano started at Ascent Soccer as a 12-year-old, moving to the USA when she was 15, where she will now follow in the post-secondary footsteps of Zobran Elias (Trinity College, CT) and Geoffrey Ogenrwot (Dickinson College, PA).

Also on a university pathway for Ascent Soccer is Milton Academy's Christian Kakhome, Edna Macuacua and Emmanuel Cheyo, alongside Issa Abdu at Canada's St. Andrew's College and Latu Kayira, who is currently a schoolmate of Lughano’s at Brooks School.

Ascent Soccer identifies soccer and academic talent from across southeast Africa and then invests heavily and holistically in their development as players, students and people.

Ascent’s U20 female team made the FAM Women’s National Championship final earlier this year and produced four senior internationals (aged between 16 and 18) who led the Scorchers to their maiden COSAFA Cup victory in South Africa. Ascent’s U16 boys team also triumphed in Iceland in July, lifting the Rey Cup on their first tour of Europe.
